Anchorage· Athol Island· Bahamas — North

Salt Bay Anchorage (Athol Island NW)

25° 4.8′ N · 77° 16.8′ W

A small bight on the north-west corner of Athol Island, open west and north but good in south and east winds, with water clear enough to see sand dollars and big starfish under the keel.

Practical

ActiveCaptain position. Anchor in 7-10 ft. Good protection S and E; open W and N. Busy with pontoons, fishing boats and jet-ski tours by day and rolly from wakes until after 5 pm; quiet overnight (2023 reviewer, 4.5 ft draft, anchored close in). That reviewer was shown a few pigs kept by a local operator behind the beach.

Best for

Clear-water overnight in settled easterlies
