Cave and Cashs Cays Anchorage (Bight of Abaco)
26° 51.9′ N · 77° 53.6′ W
Two lagoon-laced cays just west of Fox Town in the northern Bight of Abaco, a completely isolated alternative to Great Sale on the West End route. At night the only light is the BTC tower at Fox Town.
Practical
ActiveCaptain position. Great protection in W, NW and SW winds and reasonable in north winds; good holding in sand with moderate turtle grass and no current. Cave Cay has two interior lagoons joined by a deep channel; Cashs Cay has one; small clear-sand beaches on the east side of both. Depths are generally deeper than Garmin/Navionics show, with 4.6 ft at MLW fairly close to shore; boats under 5.5 ft draft can get close enough for good protection. Approach on the West End Bars south route from the west end of Little Abaco, or via Spence Rock Channel from the south. One 2018 boat saw under 4 ft on the recommended route at Nassau high tide; others had 6 ft or more (2015-2019). Tide here is about 3 hours after Nassau. 3 bars BTC from Fox Town (8 nm); an 8 nm mostly protected dinghy ride to Fox Town via The Haulover. Turtles, rays and birds. Pre-Dorian reports.
