Abaco Hurricane Season and the Dorian Legacy
26° 32.5′ N · 77° 3.8′ W · approximate
Hurricane Dorian made landfall over Elbow Cay and Marsh Harbour on September 1, 2019, as a Category 5 storm with 185 mph sustained winds, damaging most of Marsh Harbour and 90-100% of buildings on Man-O-War. Much has been rebuilt, but businesses still reopen and close, so older guidebooks mislead.
Practical
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1-November 30 with the peak mid-August to mid-October. Marsh Harbour Boat Yards (85-ton lift) is the main local haul-out. Always confirm a marina or restaurant is open before planning around it; several entries here are flagged accordingly. Coordinate is the Marsh Harbour town center. Map position is an approximate representative point for this entry (derived from the nearest settlement, dock or harbour named above), not a surveyed location.
