Service· Exuma Cays

Fuel in the Exumas — the three-stop reality

There are only three dependable fuel points across roughly 130nm of chain: Highbourne Cay at the north, Staniel Cay Yacht Club in the middle, and George Town / Emerald Bay at the south. Several charts and directories still list docks that no longer sell fuel.

Practical

HIGHBOURNE CAY MARINA — diesel and gasoline, ~30,000 gal capacity. STANIEL CAY YACHT CLUB — diesel and gasoline, 08:00-17:00 daily; the only reliable fuel in ~100nm; does run out when the supply barge cannot get in, and the fuel dock is untenable in strong westerlies. EXUMA YACHT CLUB GEORGE TOWN — historically 09:00-15:00. MARINA AT EMERALD BAY — full service. NOT AVAILABLE: Little Farmer's had NO DIESEL as of 2019, gasoline only hand-pumped from a drum; Compass Cay has NO FUEL at all; Sampson Cay Marina is permanently closed; Norman's Cay has no operational fuel dock despite directory listings. Diesel reported ~$5.75/gal at Staniel mid-2024; broader Bahamas 2026 around $7.50-8.00/gal plus VAT.
