Bitter Guana Cay Iguana Beach

24° 8.6′ N · 76° 25.1′ W

A long white beach backed by dramatic chalk-white limestone cliffs, with dozens of endangered Bahamian rock iguanas basking on the sand. The cliffs make this one of the most photogenic anchorages in the chain.

Practical

Protected species — do not feed them, and never offer meat or processed food. Placid but will bite if cornered. Anchor off and dinghy in; the beach shelves gently. Best light early morning or late afternoon, also when the iguanas are most active.

Best for

Endangered rock iguanas against white cliffs
