Mendenhall Valley Supermarkets (Safeway, Fred Meyer)

58° 22.3′ N · 134° 35.7′ W

Juneau's big supermarkets are in the Mendenhall Valley, inland of Auke Bay, and this is where a charter crew does its main shop. Safeway, Fred Meyer, Super Bear and a Costco (elsewhere in town) are all mapped here; nothing comparable exists once you leave Juneau.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM Safeway. OSM also maps Fred Meyer (58.3594, -134.5618), Super Bear Supermarket (58.3714, -134.5877) and Costco (58.3592, -134.4824). These are on the road system, not at the harbor, so plan a ride or rental car for the shop; the transport arrangement is unconfirmed. Downtown Juneau also has grocery stores within walking distance of Harris Harbor (ADF&G). The grocer in Gustavus buys mostly at the Juneau Costco, which shows how thin the supply is across Icy Strait. Hoonah, Gustavus and Elfin Cove have only small stores.
