Anse Chastanet Reef

13° 51.8′ N · 61° 4.8′ W

A shallow reef starting just steps from the dark-sand beach and sloping from about 15 ft to 60 ft, with sea fans, big trumpetfish, turtles and volcanic rock: St Lucia's classic shore snorkel and a first-dive site.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap outline of Anse Chastanet Reef. Depths and species from the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority dive guide. Calmest December to May and clearest early in the morning. Scuba St Lucia's dive centre is on the beach (OpenStreetMap). Inside the SMMA: no touching, no taking, reef-safe sunscreen. Nearby OpenStreetMap-mapped dive sites: Turtle Reef (north of the beach, 40-150 ft, hawksbills and greens over turtle-grass beds) and Fairyland (a plateau on the headland, 40-200 ft, strong currents at times).
