11° 13.3′ N · 60° 45.9′ W
A 12-acre fruit farm in the hills above Arnos Vale, turned into a reserve, where hanging feeders and a garden bell bring hummingbirds, motmots, jacamars and tanagers in to within a few feet.
Practical
Position is the reserve (OpenStreetMap node 1327514704). Started as a fruit farm by the Mackay family in 1972; bush fires pushed it into eco- and agro-tourism, with two eco-villas on site (Peter Greenberg, 2012). Discover T&T (2020, updated 2022): open from 7 am Monday to Saturday, phone 639-2839, 52 species recorded including motmots, hummingbirds, bananaquits and red-crowned woodpeckers, plus a rare albino hummingbird. Feeding starts when the garden bell rings (Discover T&T). Entry fee not confirmed from a primary source: ask on the phone. Closest yacht anchorages are Great Courland Bay (Plymouth) and Mount Irvine; it is a short taxi ride up Arnos Vale Road.
