Cow and Calf Rocks

18° 18.2′ N · 64° 50.8′ W · approximate

Two rocks in the south approach to St. James Bay that are among the most popular dives on the south side: Cow Rock is riddled with swim-throughs, Calf Rock has a long ledge full of lobster, crabs and nurse sharks, with elkhorn, staghorn and pillar coral in the shallows.

Practical

Position approximate: between the OpenStreetMap positions of Cow Rock and Calf Rock, checked to be in the water. Coast Pilot: Cow Rock (7 ft) is the west and Calf Rock (2 ft) the east rock of the group in the south approach to St. James Bay. Red Hook Dive Center: both sites lie inside a marine preserve; fish, turtles, lobsters, rays and sharks are common. The rocks are a navigation hazard as much as a dive site: give them a clear berth under sail.
