Grand Anse Anchorage (Praslin west coast)

4° 20.0′ S · 55° 42.0′ E · approximate

The long, open bay off Grand Anse village on Praslin's west coast, a lee from the south-east trades where The Moorings sends SE-season crews for a relaxed afternoon before crossing to La Digue.

Practical

The bay is a calm, long and shallow sea bay (Wikivoyage) and the beach is 'not always ideal for swimming' (SeyVillas): a wide shallow reef flat runs out from the sand, so anchor well off in sand outside the reef edge, approach in good overhead light with a bow lookout and land the dinghy only at mid to high tide. The Moorings 14-day SE-wind itinerary uses it as an afternoon stop, not an overnight. Note the season: it is in the lee only in the south-east trades (about May to October); it faces west and south-west, so it is open to the north-west monsoon (December to March) and should be avoided then - the NW-season lee on Praslin is the east and south-east coast (Baie Ste Anne, Anse La Blague). No depths, holding data, moorings or fees are published in the sources checked. Ashore: Grand Anse village supermarkets, banks, a SEYPEC fuel station and the hospital are a short walk inland. Position approximate: about 1.2 km off the middle of the OSM-mapped Grand'Anse Praslin beach line, in open water; check depth on a current chart before anchoring.
