Culion Town Anchorage

11° 53.4′ N · 120° 1.5′ E

Anchor in the bay east of Culion town, the historic former leper colony crowned by its fort-church and lighthouse, and dinghy in to a quiet town with a market, hospital and museum.

Practical

Noonsite (2013): dinghies can tie to one of the piers off the town; small stores and the market at the western end of the waterfront provide the basics; a newly rebuilt hospital with good services. The Culion ferry terminal and harbour office (OSM 11.8951N 120.0200E) and a Coast Guard post are on the waterfront. Ferries and bangkas run to Coron town. Little tourist development. Update: RCC/Plainsong (2025) gives verified positions: town side 11 53.35N 120 01.48E (used here) and the quieter, better-sheltered east side 11 53.17N 120 01.50E; mud and coral among bangka moorings (more coral on the town side); IALA channel and isolated-danger buoys on the approach (on the Navionics card but not the Boating app); the old concrete entrance pillars remain. Land at the town steps; simple supplies; museum open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm except holidays; walk up to the vista point and Culion sign. Sloepmouche (2017): 11 53.11N 120 01.40E in 18 m sand/mud; Lifelines (2008) 19 m in the small bay in front of town. Brigadoon (2013): reasonable supermarket at the back of the village, fish at the port in the evening, no diesel.
