Sayulita

20° 52.3′ N · 105° 26.4′ W

The bohemian surf town on the open Pacific just north of the Punta Mita peninsula: a wide sandy beach with a gentle beginner wave, 40-plus restaurants, a Friday organic market and a Huichol craft plaza. Most cruisers visit by bus or taxi from Punta Mita or La Cruz rather than by boat.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM beach polygon for Playa Sayulita. Outside Banderas Bay on the exposed Pacific coast; not a recognised yacht anchorage, so treat any stop as a calm-day lunch hook only. Wikivoyage: the beach is shallow (you can stand 50 m out); surf lessons and board rentals everywhere; pangas for fishing and whale watching (November through January). Friday Mercado del Pueblo farmers market (Banderas News). Compostela buses from the Puerto Vallarta airport pedestrian bridge run every 10 minutes from about 5:15am to 10:30pm (MXN 60 in 2026). During the February 22, 2026 cartel unrest that followed the killing of 'El Mencho', Sayulita reported no disturbances and Highway 200 reopened the next day (Latitude 38).
