Puerto Vallarta Port Captain and Immigration

20° 39.3′ N · 105° 14.4′ W · approximate

Puerto Vallarta is an official port of entry. The Port Captain and customs share the maritime terminal building by the cruise-ship dock; immigration is in town.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM node for the Puerto Vallarta maritime terminal (approx). Noonsite (2019 update; procedures change): Marina Vallarta and Paradise Village Marina are convenient places to complete formalities and can help with paperwork; obtaining a Temporary Import Permit here as a first Mexican port is reported straightforward. All international departures from the bay clear out through the Nuevo Vallarta Port Captain (see that entry) after domestic clearance here. Each port in the bay (Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, La Cruz) has historically been treated as separate for check-in and check-out. Ports were closed for a day during the February 22, 2026 cartel unrest (Latitude 38).
