Puerto Escondido Waiting Room Anchorage

25° 48.6′ N · 111° 18.2′ W · approximate

The large, somewhat protected outer bay seaward of the harbour entrance and the abandoned 'Ellipse' marina project—free anchoring with the marina's services a dinghy ride away.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: the outer basin south of the harbour entrance traced from the OpenStreetMap coastline (checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline). Wikipedia describes it as large and 'somewhat protected'; it is outside the inner hurricane hole, so in a strong norther or chubasco most boats move inside to a mooring. Authorities once cleared it of abandoned live-aboard hulks that kept sinking (Club Cruceros, 2023)—derelicts may still be about at night. Check with the marina whether dinghy-dock use is charged before landing; fuel, water and the store are at the marina.
