Caleta El Gallo

24° 28.0′ N · 110° 22.7′ W · approximate

The central lobe of the three-lobed bay behind Isla Gallo and Isla Gallina on Espíritu Santo's west side - calm water for kayaks and paddleboards with two little rock islets off the mouth.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: a water point about 200 m off the shore inside Isla Gallo (OpenStreetMap islet at 24.4660 N, 110.3862 W), checked against the OSM coastline; no published anchoring pin was found. Baja by Sea describes the bay in three lobes: Ensenada de la Raza (north, snorkeling and swimming), Ensenada el Gallo (centre, kayaking and paddleboarding) and Isla Gallo and Gallina (south, rocky islets with marine life). Like the other west-side bays it gives N and E shelter and is listed by The Log as a south-wind shelter, but check depths on approach - no published depth data. A cruising family tacked inside Gallina, Gallo and Ballena on the way north to Candelero (Cruisers Academy). Inside Archipiélago Espíritu Santo National Park: every person aboard needs the daily CONANP bracelet (225 MXN/person/day on the CONANP page) or an annual Conservation Passport.
