Barra de Navidad French Baker Panga
19° 11.5′ N · 104° 40.6′ W · approximate
Every morning in season a panga loaded with croissants, quiches, baguettes, sourdough and chocolate and almond pastries works its way around the lagoon and marina — Barra's most famous cruiser institution, founded by Frenchman Emeric Fiegen, who opened El Horno Francés in 2003.
Practical
Position approximate: in the lagoon between the marina and the anchorage. The baker announces his arrival on VHF 22 (Noonsite) and has typically come by after the morning net; in 2025 deliveries ran every morning except Wednesday. Popular items sell out before the far side of the anchorage, so cruisers place orders the night before. Delivery prices run about 20-30% above the shop in town (2008). The business has changed hands at least twice since 2016 (2025 report), so names and schedules vary; the original baker spent the hot summer months away.
Best for
