Keomuku Anchorage

20° 51.2′ N · 156° 49.4′ W · approximate

A shoal-draft anchorage behind a gap in the reef off the abandoned village of Keomuku and its coconut grove on Lanai's remote east coast.

Practical

Coast Pilot 10: a shallow opening in the reef off the village, where boats of less than 4 ft draft find anchorage behind and south of the entrance; the northeast coast should be given a berth of at least 0.8 mile and prevailing east winds set vessels west. Coordinate is approx, about 0.15 nm off the GNIS position of Keomuku beach (checked against the OpenStreetMap coastline). Dinghy or shoal-draft boats only; keelboats should not attempt it. Nearby are the historic Kahalepalaoa church and Halepalaoa Landing (OSM).

Best for

Shoal-draft exploration of Lanai's empty east shore

Season
