Ho'okena (Kauhako Bay) Anchorage
19° 22.8′ N · 155° 54.2′ W · approximate
A deep sand anchorage off the Ho'okena village beach, an alternative to Honaunau for boats working down the South Kona coast toward Milolii and Okoe.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: placed about 250 m west of the Ho'okena beach as the Coast Pilot describes ('about 300 yards off Ho'okena') and checked to be in water. Coast Pilot (October 2026): 15 fathoms (about 90 ft), sandy bottom; carry enough scope for the depth. Kauhako Bay is a small cove with a 0.5-mile, 120-ft cliff at its head. The beach landing is in ruins; land a dinghy on the beach only in calm conditions. Exposed to kona storms and west swell.
