Halawa Valley
21° 9.6′ N · 156° 44.2′ W
One of the earliest settled valleys in Hawaii, with some 1,350 years of continuous cultural history, taro terraces and heiau, and a guided walk through the rainforest to 250 ft, double-tiered Moaula Falls.
Practical
The trail crosses private land, so the only way in is with a guide: Go Hawaii lists Greg Solatorio's cultural hiking tours, (808) 542-1855. Moaula Falls is about two miles up a moderate trail with stream crossings; Hipuapua Falls (500 ft) is beyond. The valley runs about 2 miles inland (Wikipedia). Flash floods are possible after rain; wear shoes for stream crossings. Kalua'aha Church (1833), Molokai's first Christian church, is on the drive in.
Best for
A cultural waterfall hike, best combined with a Pukoo or Halawa stop
