Symi shrimp tavernas on the Gialos quay
36° 37.2′ N · 27° 50.4′ E
Waterfront tavernas around the harbour serve Symi's famous tiny red shrimp (Symiako garidaki), fried crisp and eaten whole, best with the lights of the amphitheatre coming on.
Practical
Pin: Tholos Restaurant on the outer NE corner of Charani bay, which Sailing Issues praises for spectacular views and food. A Greeka visitor review recommends the local little shrimp 'only available in Symi's sea'. Elsewhere on the island: Taverna Tolis (Pedi), Taverna Dafnes (Toli), To Kyma (Marathounda) and Panormio Cafe-Restaurant (Panormitis). Dinner is busiest after the day ferries leave; book in July–August.
