Toahotu Pass Snorkel (Motu Mahaea)

16° 38.7′ S · 151° 25.5′ W · approximate

Clear ocean water flooding in through Toahotu Pass along the south side of Motu Mahaea. The brief recommends snorkeling it on the incoming current, straight from the Mahaea reef anchorage.

Practical

Position approximate, between Motu Mahaea (OSM) and the pass mouth on the decree's annex 15 chart. Snorkel only on the incoming current, keep someone in the dinghy, and tow a buoy: excursion boats and ferries use the pass. Outgoing flow can be strong when swell is pumping over the reef. Anchor in ZMR de Mahaea Récif (40 boats, 24 h).

Best for
