Plage de Maui (Tapu'e Maui), Toahotu

17° 47.2′ S · 149° 18.1′ W

Tahiti Iti's white-sand beach at Toahotu, named for the demigod Maui's white footprints, with turquoise lagoon water and forest behind.

Practical

Coordinates from Tahiti Heritage, which gives the beach's names as To'uo'uo or Tapu'e Maui ('Maui's footprint'); OpenStreetMap maps 'Māui beach' at the same spot. Legend says Maui formed Passe Tapuaeraha, the island's biggest and deepest pass, here. On the west coast of Tahiti Iti about 7 km from Taravao. By tender from the Taiarapu-Ouest regulated zones (Haitama, Toahotu, is the closest), or by road.
