Mopelia Supply & Self-Sufficiency

16° 48.4′ S · 153° 56.2′ W · approximate

Mopelia has no services of any kind, and the nearest help is a long upwind sail away. Everything you need for the stay, plus a reserve for waiting on weather, has to be on board.

Practical

Noonsite (June 2024): no provisions or fresh food, so be self-sufficient for food and water and carry plenty of fuel. No clearance facilities; Bora Bora or Raiatea are the nearest ports of entry. French Wikipedia: the supply ship from Maupiti was scheduled to call about twice a year, staying two days, but rotations are sometimes cancelled for weather. Wikipedia: the most recent supply-ship visit it records was in 2021. French Wikipedia cites a 2008 case of a sailor evacuated from Mopelia by helicopter, so medical help means a long-range rescue. Carry a full offshore medical kit and satellite communications, and leave a float plan with someone in Bora Bora or Maupiti. Coordinate is the OSM centre of the eastern motu (approx).
