Faaroa River (Aoppomau) Dinghy Trip

The only navigable river in French Polynesia. It winds out of the head of Faaroa Bay under a jungle canopy, with Mount Tefatuaiti towering above.
Practical
Explore it by dinghy without the motor running (Dream Yacht guide), or better by kayak or paddleboard. Swim in fresh water, listen to the birds, then visit the botanical garden (brief). Start at the head of Faaroa Bay from the ZMR de Faaroa. Go at high water (around midday or midnight in this solar-tide area, 20–30 cm range) for the most depth over the bar. Position is a point on the river (OSM 'Āpo'omā'ū').
