Punaruku Beach Pearls (Makemo)

16° 31.0′ S · 143° 49.2′ W · approximate

A small pearl venture named for Punaruku beach. Cruisers have only seen its placemats in a village restaurant; it was not visibly operating when they anchored at Punaruku.

Practical

Approximate: placed ashore near the Punaruku anchorage waypoint (16°31.1S / 143°49.3W). The only report (Kokopeli, Oct 2018, Soggy Paws) says 'Punaruku Plage/Punaruku Beach Pearls - Makemo' placemats were in a restaurant but 'this was not evident when we were in Punaruku, but maybe operates sometimes.' The commune counted only 4 pearl farmers on Makemo in 2024, and pearl farming is limited to 50 ha of the lagoon. Ask in Pouheva before planning a visit.
