Gendarmerie de Rimatara (Amaru)

22° 38.8′ S · 152° 47.5′ W

Rimatara's gendarmerie post in Amaru, next to the mairie: report here if you manage to land, as yachts are asked to check in on every Austral island.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM-mapped Gendarmerie nationale building in Amaru. Rimatara is not an international port of entry: clear into French Polynesia first (nearest entry port Rurutu, about 81 nm ENE). The compendium notes that even yachts arriving from other Polynesian ports are asked to check in at the gendarmerie on all the Austral islands. The mairie and municipal police are next door. Expect a biosecurity check: Rimatara is largely pest-free and visitors traditionally pass through purifying coconut-husk smoke on arrival.
