Lastovo's main village is built inland in an amphitheatre on a hillside, out of sight of pirates. Its houses are topped with fumari, tall decorated stone chimneys, no two alike. The island was a closed Yugoslav military zone for decades, which kept it unspoilt.
Practical
Walk up from Lučica or take a taxi from Zaklopatica, Ubli or Skrivena Luka. Very dark skies at night; Lastovo is known for stargazing.
