Poison Channel Anchorage (Cape Eleuthera)

24° 51.1′ N · 76° 19.1′ W

A tide-swept but swell-free hideout in the channel behind the cays north-east of Cape Eleuthera, used to wait for a weather window to the Exumas.

Practical

Position from the ActiveCaptain marker. Come in from the west keeping the sand bar and the obelisk to the north; about 9 ft over the bar at the entrance, then 15 ft inside. Deep sand, great holding. Sound swell does not wrap in, but the tide runs hard. Little protection from the east at high tide when the bank to the east is covered (2019). Fine for a late arrival or early departure.

Best for

Staging for Exuma Sound in westerly or north winds
