Pau Pau Bay Anchorage (Palmetto Point)

25° 9.0′ N · 76° 11.7′ W

A pretty anchorage among small cays and mangroves off South Palmetto Point, with good sand and the island's best-loved pizza a short walk inland.

Practical

Position from the ActiveCaptain 'Pau Pau Bay' marker. Approach from the west or south-west, between the southern cays or above them. Sand bottom with excellent holding in 6 to 10 ft; anchoring off town itself was unsuccessful for one boat (2015). Best in north to north-east winds; when the wind is south of east swell comes in, so tuck in behind the bigger island (2018). The town dock was destroyed: land on the beach, which has deep water close in. Free town water near the beach (2015). No-see-ums can be fierce on calm evenings: screens up.

Best for

Settled north-east winds and a pizza night ashore
