Sandy Point Creek Anchorage

26° 1.9′ N · 77° 23.9′ W

A protected creek anchorage just north of the settlement, sheltered from the waves and swell that make the beach roadstead uncomfortable in southeasterlies.

Practical

High-tide entry for 4 ft draft or less (commercial boats carry 6 ft with local knowledge). Stay 100 yards off the point as you round into the creek; a marker pole marks a shoal on the east side - anchor in sand about 50 yards NNW of it. Swift tidal flow swings boats to current; a second anchor may be needed. Heavy fishing-skiff traffic - show an anchor light. Rode out a 55-knot E-SE squall comfortably (2011); not for sustained strong W or N. ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally.

Best for
