Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto
26° 0.6′ N · 111° 20.6′ W
The 'mother of the Californias': the first successful Spanish mission and town on the peninsula, founded on October 25, 1697 by Jesuit Juan María de Salvatierra at the Monqui settlement of Conchó.
Practical
Coordinate is from Wikipedia. Loreto was capital of the Californias until 1777, and the Portolá expedition that founded Alta California's missions set out from here on March 24, 1769. Next door, the Museo de las Misiones Jesuíticas displays 17th- and 18th-century religious art, weapons and tools (Wikivoyage). Two blocks from the malecón—an easy walk from the harbour.
