Stončica Bay (Vis)
43° 4.1′ N · 16° 14.6′ E
A long, narrow bay on the north-east corner of Vis with a sandy beach at its head, very clear water and the Stončica lighthouse on the point. It is the classic first stop on Vis when arriving from Hvar or Split.
Practical
Sources differ on anchoring. Older guides say anchor mid-bay in 5-15 m on sand that does not hold well, with a line ashore; a 2025 guide says anchoring is no longer allowed and the bay is now buoys only, about 10 buoys that are free by day and paid at night. Check on arrival. Sheltered from most winds but open to bura (NE) and tramontana (N); leave if those are forecast. Restaurant at the head of the bay.
Best for
Lunch stop or quiet night on arrival at Vis
Season
May-Oct; avoid in bura
